Project Background
With increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, steel plants often need to upgrade existing dust collection systems across various areas, including production and material handling.
This project aims to upgrade the dust collection systems to enhance dust removal efficiency in the production facilities, raw material supply areas, and coke conveying sections.
A total of 31 industrial centrifugal fans have been installed for the dust collection systems.
Customer Requirements
The upgraded system requires centrifugal fans capable of reliable operation across various dust collection conditions.
When selecting the fans, it is necessary to consider not only the required airflow volume but also the following factors:
Airflow volume
System pressure
Operating temperature
Dust characteristics
System resistance
Existing ductwork and dust collection equipment
A key requirement is ensuring that each fan is matched to the specific operating conditions of its corresponding dust collection system.
SIMO Blower Solutions
To meet system requirements, the steel plant installed a total of 31 centrifugal fans across various dust collection points.
During the selection process, the focus was on matching fan performance to actual system resistance and operating conditions, rather than simply increasing fan capacity.
For each specific application, factors such as ductwork resistance, dust collector resistance, operating temperature, and required airflow were comprehensively considered during selection.
This approach enables the fans to operate closer to their design duty points, ensuring a stable and reliable dust collection process and achieving high system efficiency.
Applications
These 31 centrifugal fans are utilized for dust extraction across several areas, specifically:
Production Facilities
Dust generated during steel production and related processes is extracted via dedicated dust removal systems.
Raw Material Supply
The fans assist in dust extraction during the handling and conveying of raw materials.
Coke Transport
The loading, unloading, and transport of coke generate significant amounts of dust; dedicated extraction fans help maintain effective dust removal during these stages.
Engineering Considerations
For dust removal systems in large-scale steel plants, fan performance cannot be evaluated in isolation from the system as a whole.
A high airflow rating does not necessarily guarantee superior dust removal performance.
If fan parameters do not match the actual system resistance—resulting in excessive airflow or insufficient pressure—issues such as operational instability, increased energy consumption, or suboptimal extraction performance may arise.
Therefore, the objective of this project is not merely to supply larger fans, but to ensure that the fans, ductwork, dust removal equipment, and operating conditions function cohesively as an integrated system.
