Biomass Power Generation Project—8 Centrifugal Fans for the Boiler System

Biomass Power Generation Project—8 Centrifugal Fans for the Boiler System

Sep 18, 2026

Project Background

This project involves a biomass power generation system equipped with a biomass boiler.

During the biomass combustion process, stable air supply and flue gas handling systems are crucial for maintaining the required combustion conditions and boiler draft (furnace negative pressure).

To meet the operational requirements of the boiler system, SIMO Blower supplied eight industrial centrifugal fans, covering four distinct process applications: primary air, secondary air, induced draft, and flue gas recirculation.

Customer Requirements

Different sections of a biomass boiler system have varying requirements regarding airflow and pressure conditions.

Therefore, fan selection must take the following factors into account:
Airflow volume
Pressure
Operating temperature
Flue gas conditions
System resistance
Continuous operation requirements

High-temperature fans operate at temperatures up to 160°C; consequently, the fan configuration must be capable of handling the continuous transport of high-temperature gases.

SIMO Blower Solutions

To meet process requirements, SIMO Blower supplied eight centrifugal fans for this biomass power generation project.

1. Primary Air Fans – 2 Units

The primary air fans supply the air required for combustion in the boiler and support air distribution needs during the biomass combustion process.

Airflow: 20,712–22,700 m³/h
Pressure: 3,500 Pa
Temperature: 25°C

2. Secondary Air Fans – 2 Units

The secondary air fans provide additional combustion air and assist with air distribution within the combustion system.

Airflow: 8,877–9,700 m³/h
Pressure: 5,500 Pa
Temperature: 25°C

3. Induced Draft Fans – 2 Units

The induced draft fans are responsible for conveying flue gas generated by the boiler and maintaining the required negative pressure (furnace draft) within the furnace.

Airflow: 48,542–77,000 m³/h
Pressure: 7,200 Pa
Temperature: 160°C

Given that the fans must operate under conditions involving high airflow and high temperatures, the design fully accounts for structural integrity, sealing performance, and operational stability.

4. Flue Gas Recirculation Fans – 2 Units

In accordance with process requirements, the flue gas recirculation fans return a portion of the flue gas to the boiler system.

Airflow: Approx. 7,700 m³/h
Pressure: 5,500 Pa
Temperature: 160°C

Engineering and Manufacturing

For biomass boiler applications, fan performance must be matched to the specific boiler and flue gas system; selection should not be based solely on airflow volume.

Manufacturing specifications include requirements for maintenance and clean-out ports, drainage facilities, sealing measures, vibration monitoring points, and anti-corrosion treatments.

In the case of high-temperature fans, the design fully accounts for operational requirements involving 160°C flue gas to ensure stable performance under the specified operating conditions.
